Perth : History and Geography

The name Perth derives from a Pictish word meaning wood or thicket, and it was often considered the unofficial capital of Scotland, due to the frequent residence of the royal court held here.  Indeed, The Lodge at Perth Racecourse stands in the ancient grounds of Scone Palace, crowning place of Scottish Kings.

Perthshire is now one of UK’s largest counties, situated in the centre of Scotland. The city of Perth sits at its heart, and the diverse landscape of the region stretches from open farmland in the south, to the start of the Highlands and the foothills of the Cairngorms in the north.

Fabulous place to stay right next to Perth racecourse. Very very friendly, food fabulous, staff very welcoming. One of the best reasons for me is they are very dog friendly letting us take our 3 dogs. Lots of walks and not far from Perth itself. 5 stars from me.
